Hosting and Service Level Agreement
For those clients opting for off-premises hosting, Miami, FL and Atlanta, GA are home to Ultimate’s two redundant colocation data centers. Management is by infrastructure company Quality Technology Services, the third largest data center provider in the U.S. and a Safe Harbor and SSAE 16 certified provider. As such, when it comes to the common SaaS data concerns of privacy, information security, and uptime assurance, Ultimate takes these issues seriously. For example,
- Ultimate was the first payroll SaaS provider to achieve ISO/IEC 27001 certification (a global industry standard created by the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission that assesses organizations’ adherence to internal controls relating to information security management).
- The Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees uptime of 99.9%. However, Ultimate does not disclose whether this guarantee is hosting environment-based, or systems availability-based; nor whether a failure to meet the SLA would result in a financial reimbursement. In absence of an agreed monetary sanction behind the guarantee, some clients may view the SLA as lacking credibility. Furthermore, unlike many SaaS providers, Ultimate offers no online monitoring facility to view metrics such as uptime, downtime, performance levels (latency, jitter, etc.) and service windows.
With license purchases no longer available, the SaaS model is the only option for new UltiPro clients. However, as mentioned above, Ultimate clients may choose to host their own data (particularly necessary for some strict regulatory industries or companies with cultural issues); however, organizations considering this option should understand that self-hosting could negate a number of SaaS operating efficiencies and benefits.
Ultimate Software Pricing
As is common on the SaaS payroll market, subscription pricing for UltiPro depends upon the number of employees, functionality requirements, services added, and customer needs. Quotes are provided following analysis of the needs of individual potential clients. Unfortunately, this means that no broad indication of cost is available without engaging in a fairly detailed engagement with the Ultimate sales team. This lack of transparency can create an early atmosphere of adversarial negotiation which may be off-putting to some clients.
